Alex Stieda
Alex’s cycling career spanned 15 years from 1977 to 1992 during which he raced track, road, mountain and cyclo-cross bicycles. Alex raced for Canada's national team from 1979 until 1992, the last 7 years as a professional for the ground-breaking 7-Eleven team and competed in an average of 100 races a season. Some of Alex’s career highlights include winning bronze medals at the 82 Common Wealth Games (Brisbane) and 83 Universiade Games (Edmonton), representing Canada at the '84 Los Angeles Olympics and in 1986, was the first North American to wear the famed Yellow Jersey at the Tour de France.
Alex is also riding in support of his close friend, ex-teammate and multiple Tour de France stage winner Davis Phinney, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease. | | Axel Merckx
Son of the legendary Eddy Merckx, Axel has put together an impressive 14-year career of his own, including a tenth place Tour de France overall finish in 1998, a stage win in the 2000 Giro d'Italia, and a bronze medal in the 2004 Olympic Road Race. Axel has ridden the Tour de France eight times, and was also Belgium's national champion in 2000. At the end of the 2007 season Axel retired from the Pro Tour and now resides in Kelowna, BC with his family.

Also joining us on August 3rd will be Barbara Dortch, a 2–time Penticton Ironman athlete who at the age of 60 will again compete in Penticton this summer. She has twice qualified for the Hawaii Ironman and hopes to again qualify and finally make the journey to compete in Hawaii. As added inspiration, Barbara has achieved all of this while suffering from Parkinson’s disease. | |  | |  | |  |
